With more than 35 years’ experience achieving successful conservation outcomes, their focus is on supporting the planting of native trees to create thriving, biodiverse and resilient ecosystems. Their work is grounded in science, community partnerships and measurable ecological outcomes.

A Nationwide Network of Credible Restoration Projects

Trees That Count has Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest network of credible nature projects and connects funding for native trees with on-the-ground restoration efforts. Their network includes iwi and hapū, community groups, conservation trusts, councils and regional authorities, and private landowners committed to ecological recovery. With a team of ecologists across the country, each project undergoes robust assessment. This means funding for native trees goes to experienced project teams with rigorous weed and pest control plans, ensuring the long-term survival of the trees planted.

Native trees support people and nature in many ways – stabilising landscapes, cleaning our waterways, providing habitat for taonga species and supporting natural ecosystem processes. Through support from business and individuals across the country, Trees That Count has enabled the planting of nearly three million native trees. This work contributes to strengthening our climate defences, enhancing our biodiversity and improving community resilience.
